Finland's Game Of Thrones Ice Hotel

A walk through of Lapland, Finland’s incredible Game Of Thrones Themed Ice Hotel.

Video bellow>>>

Every room depicts a different scene or theme from the show, and the art is just incredible. If you notice the crystal clear ice that makes up most of the furniture; It’s hard to get ahold of ice that is clear. The ice is actually pulled from a river earlier in the season, and then kept in refrigerated storage for months.

Every November, the team starts from scratch. 400,000 kilos (Or 441 tons) of ice are used for the creation of the incredible works. Throughout the open season, the Ice Hotel has a busy maintenance team.

Though the average temperature inside the hotel is kept below freezing (-2 to -4 degrees Celsius), the art does have a habit of melting. Apparently the WeirWood tree’s lowest branches often lose chunks as less-mindful patrons walk straight into the sculpture.

Footage of the tree

didn’t make the final cut, though feel free to reach out if you’d like to see it. There’s actually lots of good stuff that didn’t make the cut. Including:

  • Glowing Dragon Eye Room.

  • WeirWood tree

  • The Throne @ Dragonstone

  • A solemn taking of the Iron Throne

  • After hours footage of some of the rooms in their fully lit forms.

A note on the restaurant:

The functioning restaurant serves everything on thick slabs of wood. Though very Game Of Thrones appropriate, they’re more than just decoration. The wood is the method they’ve found to prevent the food from melting holes in the icy tables. Said tables, by the way, actually have a woodgrain pattern carved into the ice. Just another nod to the incredible level of detail built into the hotel.

For the business and marketing nerds out there:

The team has partnered with HBO nordic for a mutual use agreement. Meaning, HBO doesn’t have to pay them for advertising, and the creators don’t have to pay HBO for usage of the GOT theme. This is not a small win.
